In Memoriam

From your Brothers & Sisters - The Long Island Pride Parade Committee

Hunt Glover- 1992 Grand Marshal
Hunt was one of the first Grand Marshals of the LI Pride Parade. He was active
in our community as one of the founding members of CERF-PAC and a member of
Lambda Car Club and also a member of GLIB (Gays and Lesbians in Brookhaven).
Hunt also was a volunteer at Stony Brook Hospital's AIDS/HIV unit. He was
also active in the Democratic party, serving with the Suffolk Board of Elections.
Hunt touched many lives and he was chosen to be Grand Marshal for this reason.
The Long Island Pride Parade Inc. fondly remembers Hunt Glover.

Bill
Borman - 2001 Grand Marshal
The
following poem was read by Bill's sister, Maureen Borman at a community tribute
to Bill that was held on August 24, 2003
"Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am
I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call
me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play,
smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that
it always was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of a shadow
on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there
is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just round the
corner. All is well."
- Henry
Scott Holland (1847-1918), Canon of St. Paul’s Cathedral

Jim
Stephens - 2003 Grand Marshal
On November 28, 2003, Jim Stephens passed away leaving
behind a path of activism he blazed with persistance.
Jim Stephens was a friend, and incredible activist. Jim was a Suffolk County
Human Rights Commissioner, involved with the Log Cabin Republicans, active
member of the Long Island GLBT Network, a grand marshal of the 2003 Long Island
Pride Parade, volunteered with Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY)
through their Long Island Coalition for Same-Sex Marriage, and an extremely
active alumni of Arizona State University serving as President of the Greater
NY Chapter.
As a Suffolk County Human Rights Commissioner, Jim brought a voice and visibility of our GLBT Community with respect to human rights. He made GLBT equality an issue, and actively sought opportunities to make change. His work with Log Cabin Republicans helped to cultivate relationships with Republican politicians to advocate for GLBT concerns including the Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination Act (SONDA) of December 2002 and local domestic partner legislation. Using public transportation, Jim was a pillar of the Long Island GLBT Network always in attendance and contributing vital information about GLBT politics. With LIGALY, Jim contributed by volunteering for youth activities and being involved with the LI Coalition for Same-Sex Marriage to ensure that our right to marry would someday be a reality. Jim always worked behind the scenes – he was humble and quiet, but determined to fight for equality.
We will remember Jim Stephens with warmth, fondness and admiration
